
Eagles Excel In Atlanta During Final Tuneup For Upcoming Sun Belt Championships

Georgia Tech Invitational sees more solid performances for the Eagles
ATLANTA - The Georgia Southern women's track and field team participated its final tuneup for the Sun Belt Conference Championships over the weekend, traveling to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invitational.
The Eagles again had a successful meet, highlighted by Alexis Gant's win in the Discus Throw. Her toss of 149' 0.9" was not only a personal best but it was the second-best performance in school history. She bettered 10 other competitors in claiming the event title.
Reigning Sun Belt Track Athlete of the Week Merabu Nagwandala continued her stellar Spring by again bettering her own school-best mark in the 5000 meters, this time running the event in a time of 17:16.67, finishing sixth. She shaved 28 seconds off of her previous mark of 17:44.00 recorded earlier this month.
Sholonda Snell notched a third-place finish in the 800 meters, in a time of 2:12.33, while Izlyn Zaini finished fifth in the 100 hurdles, in a time of 14.33.
The 4x100 Relay team of Beyunka Foster, Desiree Blunt, Camryn Mathis and Zaini placed sixth in a time of 46.85.

Georgia Southern will now prepare for the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which takes place on May 10-12 in Jonesboro, Ark., on the campus of Arkansas State University.
