MONROE, LA. - A four run eighth inning for ULM gave the Warhawks an 8-5 win over Georgia Southern on Sunday. The first seven batters reached to start the bottom of the eighth inning to break the 4-4 deadlock after the Eagles stranded three in the seventh and two in the eighth. The Eagles open a five game week on Tuesday against Presbyterian College in Statesboro at 6 p.m.
SCORING INNINGS
TOP 2nd | GS 2 - ULM 0 | Noah Ledford gave the Eagles a loud lift in the second with a two run bomb to right which staked the Eagles to an early lead for the second time in the series. The home run was Ledford's team-best sixth of the season.
BOT 2nd | GS 2 - ULM 1 | ULM got a run back in the second, cleaning up a double in the inning by scoring off a wild pitch to cut the lead in half.
BOT 4th | GS 2 - ULM 2 | A sacrifice fly after back to back base hits in the fourth inning tied the game at two.
TOP 5th | GS 3 - ULM 2 | The Eagles got a run back in the fifth with a
Matt Anderson hit and a
Steven Curry single to left that plated the Georgia Southern backstop from second.
BOT 5th | GS 3 - ULM 3 | ULM tied the game for the second time in the fifth inning with a run off two hits and an Eagle error.
TOP 6th | GS 4 - ULM 3 | With runners on second and third, a two out balk allowed the go-ahead run to score as the Eagles went on top for the third time in the game.
BOT 6th | GS 4 - ULM 4 | A leadoff single in the eighth came around to score and tie the game for the third time with another sacrifice fly.
BOT 8th | GS 4 - ULM 8 | ULM took control of the game with a four run inning to post a 8-4 lead with the Eagles down to their final three outs.
TOP 9th | GS 5 - ULM 8 | The Eagles got a run back in the ninth when
Noah Ledford hit a bases loaded sacrifice fly to the warning track in center that would had left the yard had it not been for the wind gusting in. A strikeout one batter later handed the Eagles their first series loss of the season.
