
Baseball Crushes UTA 15-8 to Take Weekend Series

Nolan Tressler's big day includes a home run, a double and five RBIs
SCORING INNINGS
TOP 1st | GS 2 - UTA 0 | Nolan Tressler hit the biggest fly of his career, ripping a two-run home run down the right field line to plate leadoff hitter Steven Curry who walked to start the game. The Home Run was Tressler's first career home run.
BOT 1st | GS 2 - UTA 5 | UTA answered immediately with a five run first inning off four hits and an Eagle error to take control of the game.
BOT 4th | GS 2 - UTA 6 | Two singles and a wild pitch was good enough for UTA to get a run in the fourth to make the lead 6-2.
TOP 5th | GS 9 - UTA 6 | Georgia Southern sent 11 batters to the plate in the fifth, scoring seven runs off six hits and a UTA error. After Blake Evans grounded out to second while plating a run, six-straight Eagles reached base with five getting credit for RBIs. Tressler and Mason McWhorter headlined the frame with RBI doubles.
TOP 6th | GS 10 - UTA 6 | Matt Anderson got a leadoff single and moved around with some small ball. A wild pitch allowed Anderson to score and push the lead to 10-6.
TOP 7th | GS 14 - UTA 6 | McWhorter opened the seventh inning with a leadoff home run to pump his second bomb out of Clay Gould Ballpark in the series. An error by the third baseman allowed the second run to score, but RBI singles by Curry and Tressler scored two more to make the lead eight heading to the stretch.
BOT 7th | GS 14 - UTA 7 | The Mavericks stopped a 12-0 run by the Eagles with a single run in the seventh. A leadoff walk, followed by a double to left set up a sacrifice fly to plate the run.
TOP 8th | GS 15 - UTA 7 | McWhorter did it again in the eighth inning, hitting a leadoff home run to right to make it a 15-7 game.
BOT 9th | GS 15 - UTA 8 | A leadoff walk in the ninth inning came around to score for the Mavericks with a two out single to the gap in left, The run was academic, with the Eagles taking the 15-8 win moments later when the runner was picked off by Anderson.
NOTES
- Nola Tressler had a big day for the Eagles, going 3-for-6 with two runs scored and a career-high five RBIs. He hit a home run, a single and a double, coming just a triple shy of Georgia Southern's first cycle since 2011.
- Sophomore Hayden Harris threw four innings of two hit ball to earn the win and improve to 1-0 on the season. He allowed one run and struck out three while throwing a career-high 70 pitches.
- Steven Curry had a 2-for-3 day with two hits, two walks and a HBP. It was his 51st career HBP, moving him into a tie for fourth place on the Georgia Southern career hit batters chart.
- Mason McWhorter's two home run game was the second for an Eagle batter in as many weeks and McWhorter's second two-home run game. He now has 17 career bombs, the most of any active Eagle.
- Georgia Southern's 15 run game was their largest scoring haul since posting 19 on May 17, 2018 against Georgia State.
- Tressler's home run was the first long ball hit by an Eagle centerfielder in just over a year. Chandler Corley was the last Eagle centerfielder to hit a home run, hitting his at Mercer's cozy ballpark on March 14, 2018.

The Eagles head to South Carolina this week for a pair of midweek games. Georgia Southern visits The Citadel on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. and Charleston Southern on Wednesday night at 6.
