Baseball Drops Midweek Tilt to Kennesaw State, 12-3

Eagles visit South Alabama for weekend series beginning Friday night

BOX SCORE

STATESBORO
- Georgia Southern Baseball gave up a six run fourth inning en route to a 12-3 loss to Kennesaw State on Tuesday night. The Eagles walked five batters in the fourth and nine total batters as the Owls took the first of two games between the programs this season. This weekend Georgia Southern will visit South Alabama for a three game Sun Belt series.

SCORING INNINGS
Top 4th
- Kennesaw State set 12 batters to the plate in the fourth inning, scoring six off four hits and five walks while leaving the bases loaded to take a 6-0 lead.
Bottom 4th - Chandler Corley opened the fourth inning with a towering solo home run to start the fourth frame. The run gave the Eagles an immediate lift, cutting the lead to 6-1.
Bottom 5th - Nolan Tressler kept the pressure on the Owls in the fifth with a leadoff single. Steven Curry followed with a single to short, advancing Tressler. A fielder's choice retired Curry at second and left the Eagles with runners on the corners with one out. After a walk to Mitchell Golden loaded the bases, Mason McWhorter plated a run with a sacrifice fly. That, however, would be all the Eagles would get in the inning, stranding a runner and cutting the lead to 6-2.
Top 7th - Kennesaw State touched the Eagles up for two runs in the seventh with a two-run home run to the gap in left.
Top 9th - The Owls took advantage of two walks in the ninth and a pair of wild pitches along with three hits to plate four runs and extend the lead out to 12-2 with the Eagles down to their final three outs.
Bottom 9th - A leadoff walk to Tressler gave the Eagles an early baserunner in the ninth which advanced on a passed ball. Jason Swan drove a single to center which allowed Tressler to score and cut the lead to 12-3.

NOTES
- Tuesday's game brought freshman Austin Thompson back to the lineup. He missed six weeks with an injury sustained against Fairfield in February. Thompson went 0-for-4 in his return to the lineup.
- A season-high 10 Georgia Southern pitchers topped the mound at Jack Stallings Field with five working the fourth inning where 12 Owls came to the plate.
- Steven Curry went 2-for-5 to extend his hit streak to five games. He is 7-for-22 over the last five contests.
- Jason Swan continued his hot hitting, picking up a hit in his fifth-straight game. He went 1-for-2 on Tuesday to improve to 7-for-15 in the streak.
- Chandler Corley's fourth inning home run was the 14th bomb for the Eagles this season and the fifth solo job in 2018. Each of the Eagles' last three home runs have been of the leadoff persuasion.
