Ragin' Cajuns Take St. Patrick's Day Game, 11-2

Eagles look for the series win on Sunday at 11 a.m.

– Louisiana blew the game open with five runs in the fifth inning to take an 11-2 win over Georgia Southern on Saturday evening to even the weekend series. The Eagles scored a run early on a suicide squeeze, but the Cajuns plated 11 runs with two outs in the respective inning to take the win. Georgia Southern and Louisiana return to Jack Stallings Field at J.I. Clements Stadium on Sunday for the series finale with an 11 a.m. first pitch due to travel plans for the Ragin' Cajuns.

SCORING PLAYS
Bottom 2nd - After the Eagles got a pair of hits in the opening inning, Jason Swan reached first when he was hit by a pitch with one out in the second inning. The first baseman advance to third on Christian Avant's single to the gap in right to put runners on the corners. Jeddediah Fagg brought the run in on a suicide squeeze, dropping the bunt on the right side to plate the run and give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Top 5th - Louisiana's bats erupted in the fifth inning, as the Ragin' Cajuns touched starting pitcher Seth Shuman up for five runs off six hits in the inning including a two out triple to the gap in right to take the lead, 5-1.
Top 6th - The Cajuns added on in the sixth, setting the table with a pair of singles, and driving in the runs with a two-out triple to make it a 7-1 game.
Top 7th - Relief pitcher Hayden Harris walked the leadoff batter then committed a fielding error before striking out two batters in the seventh with two runners aboard. Another two-out triple to the gap in right scored a pair of unearned runs and extended the lead to 9-1.
Bottom 7th - Jason Swan opened the bottom of the seventh with a double down the left field line on a full count to quickly put the Eagles in business. Two ground balls to the left side moved Swan up and plated the run to cut the advantage to 9-1.
Top 8th - An Eagle throwing error in the eighth inning with two outs opened the door for two more Louisiana runs as the visitors made the line 11-2 late in the game.

NOTES
- Starting pitcher Seth Shuman went four shutout innings, but was tagged for a career-high seven runs, all earned in the final two innings of his day. The sophomore hurler gave up 12 hits, the most by an Eagle fireballer this season. He falls to 2-2 on the year.
- Jason Swan continued to swing the hot bat for the Eagles with a 2-for-3 day at the dish. He is on a three-game hit streak where he is batting 5-for-9. The freshman from Jacksonville also scored both Georgia Southern runs in Saturday's game.
- Jeddediah Fagg drove in both Georgia Southern runs in the game, but did not earn a hit in the contest. His sacrifice bunt in the second and ground out in the seventh did damage for the good guys.

The Eagles and Louisiana will wrap-up the weekend series on Sunday with an 11 a.m. game against the Ragin' Cajuns.
