Eagles look to continue success returning home from short road trip
STATESBORO, Ga. – After sweeping the weekend in Greensboro, North Carolina, the Georgia Southern women's tennis team will return home to host Bethune-Cookman and Kennesaw State this weekend. The Eagles will begin the weekend on Friday with Bethune-Cookman, who enters play with a 2-5 record. To open the season, the Wildcats defeated Wofford at home 5-2. They dropped the next five matches on the road before returning home to Daytona Beach and defeating Embry-Riddle University (Fla.) 5-4.
The blue and white will have Saturday off and returns to the courts Sunday morning to face off against Kennesaw State. The Owls enter play posting a 1-4 record, after dropping the first four matches of the season. They would get their first victory of the season, at home, defeating Jacksonville State 6-1.
"We are feeling confident going into our upcoming matches," assistant coach Elizabeth Nyenwe said. "The team competed at a high level this past week, so our confidence going into this weekend is definitely on a high. We will look to remain aggressive and consistent in our doubles play which in turn will allow for the girls to get off to a quick start in singles. Both teams are strong competitors, so the girls will need to remain focused and resilient to achieve their wins."
LAST TIME OUT
Last time out the Eagles traveled to Greensboro, North Carolina, to face off against UNCG and NC A&T. The blue and white would get back on track sweeping the weekend and defeating UNC-Greensboro, 4-3, for the first time since 2010. The Eagles would continue their success defeating North Carolina A&T on Sunday, to improve their season record to 7-2. Arianne de Winter would go 2-0 in singles play this past weekend, defeating Sarah Swiderski (UNCG) 1-6, 6-3, 6-1, and Angelica Martinez (NCAT) 6-2, 6-3.
