Eagles Make Noise At ITA Southeast Regionals

Georgia Southern records three singles wins over P4 opponents in Miami
MIAMI, Fla. - Georgia Southern women's tennis participated in the ITA Southeast Regionals over the weekend, hosted by the University of Miami. Four Eagles took part in singles and doubles action from Thursday through Saturday.
Three Eagles attempted to qualify for the Singles Main Draw on Thursday. Angelina Mihajlovic won her first-round qualifying singles match against Sabritt Dozier of Georgia Tech, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, but fell in her second-round match that would have had her qualify.
In the main draw singles on Friday, Evelyn Warkentin won her first-round match with an impressive 6-0, 6-2 victory over the University of Georgia's Ava Rodriguez. Warkentin then fell to ninth-seeded Marta Mariia Makarova of UCF in the second round, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.
Doubles action saw the duo of Warkentin and Mihajlovic win their main draw first round action by an 8-5 score over the Kennesaw State duo of Roberts and Nouzova, but the pair then fell to a seeded team from the University of Florida in the second round.
In other action, Franzi Heinemann was able to pick up a consolation singles win over Georgia Tech's Eleni Karantali, 7-5, 4-6, (10-4) while Mihajlovic won a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kennesaw State's Terezia Baraiakova, 6-1, 6-0.
"I think we had a really strong showing this year at ITAs," Georgia Southern head women's tennis coach Sean McCaffrey said. "The rain delays were a bit of a distraction, but the ladies did a fantastic job making their adjustments. I think all four of the ladies found a way to improve over the weekend. Evy, Angelina, and Franzi all had wins over P4 teams and did a great job of bringing a bunch of energy to the court. Evy and Angelina also had a great win in doubles, while Franzi and Nat definitely found a way to improve despite their loss. I'm excited for our upcoming tournament at home in a couple of weeks. It will be great to play at home and in front of our fans."
