Eagles posted top academic mark in 2015-16
NEW ORLEANS – The Georgia Southern women's tennis team was presented with its Sun Belt Conference Team GPA Award from the 2015-16 academic year at last week's conference tournament banquet.
The awards, released at the conclusion of the academic year, honor the teams with the top cumulative team grade point average in each of the sponsored sports within the Sun Belt. For award purposes, indoor and outdoor track & field are counted as a single sport.
The Eagles' women's tennis team posted a 3.66 team GPA in the 2015-16 academic year and led all women's tennis programs in the Sun Belt.
Nine of the 10 women's tennis programs in the conference posted a 3.00 GPA or better, and the Eagles edged UT Arlington for the team award.
The women's tennis team was one of seven Georgia Southern programs to post a 3.00 GPA or better last year. The men's tennis and the volleyball teams also joined the women's tennis team with a team GPA above 3.50.
In all, the Sun Belt Conference had 98 teams post at least a GPA of 3.00 and every women's soccer, volleyball and women's cross country program in the league posted a GPA of 3.00 or better.
