Mobile, Ala. –  After a 4-3 victory over App on Friday, the Eagles continued their stellar play as they defeated the Troy University Trojans 4-3 on Saturday during a 2 match road-trip to Mobile, Alabama.  The Eagles (9-3) were not able to win any of the 3 doubles matches, however, fought valiantly to take 4 of 6 singles match to earn the Sun Belt Conference win.

Michele Stanford. Â "We lost a really tough doubles point early on, and the team had a huge comeback winning four of the six singles matches. Â The final match came down to Fran, and she did a wonderful job playing under the pressure. Â The energy on court today was better than any match so far, and it is so exciting to see all of our hard work paying off!"
Anne Kurzweil and
Mary Phillips Smith were defeated 1-8 by Trant Huynh and Anja Cosovic at No. 1 doubles. Â In the No. 2 position,
Francisca Norregaard and
Daria Vasekina were bounced by Linnea Symberg and Jiayuan Xue 0-8. Â The tandem of
Jordana Klein and
Giulia Riepe were setback 1-8 by Sanae Ohta and Brooke Durden at No. 3 doubles.
Entering singles play down 0-1 for the match, the Eagles needed to take 4 of the 6 matches in order to earn the victory. Â After regrouping, Georgia Southern got wins from Smith, Kurzweil, Vasekina and Norregaard to preserve the win and remain unbeaten in Sun Belt Conference play.
At No. 4, Xue defeated Riepe 3-6, 3-6 to make it 2-0 in favor of the Trojans. Â Klein was then setback by Huynh 3-6, 2-6 in the No. 1 position to move the Trojans to 3-0 and just one point away from the win.
With their backs against the wall, Vasekina turned the tide in favor of the Eagles when she was victorious over Skymberg 6-2, 6-3. Â Moments later, Kurzweil defeated Julia Albuquerque in the No. 3 spot 2-6, 6-0, 6-1. Â
With the match score at 3-2 in favor of the Trojans, Smith defeated Ohta at No. 2 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 to even the score 3-3. Â
Norregaard got the match-winner for the Eagles in the No. 6 position when she defeated Margot De Haan 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
The Eagles will now return to the friendly confines on Saturday March 28th at 10 a.m. for a match against Bethune-Cookman.Â
