Men’s Basketball Visits South Alabama for Saturday Matinee

Eagles look to extend their two-game win streak

MOBILE, Ala. – Georgia Southern closes its two-game road swing on Saturday afternoon with an afternoon contest at South Alabama. The Eagles, winners of their last two outings, look to snap a seven-game skid in the Yellowhammer State and improve on a 9-3, 2-1 mark this season. DIAMOND DOUBLES-UP
Curtis Diamond had a big game on Thursday night in Jonesboro, tallying 12 points off the bench with 10 rebounds for his first collegiate double-double. He grabbed nine offensive rebounds in the game and for a new career-high in rebounds, doubling his previous career high of five.

FEWEST POINTS ALLOWED SINCE 1987
Georgia Southern's 40-36 win over Texas State was the fewest points allowed by the Eagle defense since a 67-34 win over Savannah State on December 5th, 1987. It is the first 40-36 game in the shot clock era and ranks in a tie for 19th lowest scoring game for both teams combined, and the lowest scoring Sun Belt game in the shot clock era. The contest is the lowest combined scoring game since January 14th, 1950 when J.B. Searce's Eagles defeated the Erskine Flying Fleet 39-36.

HEWITT MOVES INTO TOP-20
In the Eagles' loss to UCF on December 2nd, Jelani Hewitt moved into the top-20 in career scoring at Georgia Southern. He now sits in 12th with 1,505 career points. He needs just 14 more points to reach Don "Whitey" Verstaete's 10th place career total of 1,519. Additionally, he needs just 12 more points to reach C.Y. Young's total of 1,517.

ALL AROUND THE WORLD
The Eagles will travel 12,283 miles in the 30 games scheduled for the 2014-15 schedule. That total is just 168 miles less than halfway around the Earth. Georgia Southern's farthest games away from home last season, played in Cancun (840 mi.), are closer than two of the Eagles' opponents at Texas State (971 mi.) and UT Arlington (893 mi.).

After dealing with bitter cold at Arkansas State, Georgia Southern will experience downright tropical conditions in Mobile with temperatures in the 40's under sunny skies.
