Three Eagles in Top 10 as Cross Country Finishes Second

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Three Eagles finished in the top 10 as the Georgia Southern cross country team finished second among D1 teams at the USC Open #1 on Saturday at Hilton Field on the grounds of Fort Jackson.
The Eagles competed for the second-straight meet in Columbia, S.C. A pair of freshmen in Karli Koning and Bailey Willett led GSU across the finish line for the second time this season. Koning finished first among the Eagles for the first time in her career and bested her previous best with a mark of 19:37.52.
Willett finished 9th overall with a time of 19:56.12, while Ashton Lord nearly posted a career best with a time of 20:07.47 and finished 10th. Lord was just 0.10 from tying a career best set last season at the Will Wilson Citadel Invitational.
Freshmen Abigail Booth bested her previous career time with a time of 20:48.43. Katelyn Chancey competed in her first meet of 2014 and crossed the finish line with a time of 23:00.84, while Rebecca Parker crossed the finish line in her second-ever collegiate meet with a time of 23:05.94.
Cross Country returns to competition Oct. 4 at the Foothills Invitational in Oxford, Ala.
