Four Eagles in Top-20 as Cross Country Finishes 2nd

STATESBORO, Ga. - Behind Four top-20 finishes, the Georgia Southern cross country team placed second in the Carolina Invitational on Saturday morning. The Eagles finished ahead of The Citadel, Tennessee Tech and South Carolina St. and behind only South Carolina.
The first meet of the season held at Hilton Field at Fort Jackson, saw a pair of freshmen in Bailey Willett and Karli Koning lead the Eagles in the first meet of their respective careers. Willett paced the squad with a time of 19:52.33 and finished 8th in the meet. Koning was the second Eagle to cross the finish line and placed 9th overall with a time of 19:59.91.
"I am very happy for our team," Head Coach Kelly Carter said. "For the young ladies to come over here to South Carolina and to place second is a great start for our season."
Eagles Ashton Lord and Leigha Long also posted some of the best times of their careers in the first of two-straight meets in Columbia, S.C. Lord tallied the second best time of her career and finished 12th overall with a time of 20:47.00, while Long ran a 22:27.20, good for the third best time of her career.
Also making their career debuts for the Eagles, freshmen Abigail Booth and Rebecca Parker both finished in the top-30. Booth finished 17th in the race with a time of 21:09.84, while Parker crossed the line with a time of 22:04.85.
