
Eagles Show Out in Don Kirby Elite Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Georgia Southern traveled to New Mexico for the Don Kirby Elite Invitational on Feb. 13-14, its final tune-up before the Sun Belt Indoor Conference Championship. The Eagles delivered a record-setting weekend highlighted by NaJ Watson rewriting the program record books, alongside a wave of personal bests and top finishes across events.
On Day One of the meet, Georgia Southern flexed its sprint depth in the 200 meters.
Watson surged from No. 3 all-time to No. 1 with a 23.23, surpassing Scovia Ayikoru's previous school record of 23.37 set in 2023.
Shatalya Dorsett and Adonijah Currie also strengthened their positions in the program's top five, as Dorsett's 23.51 held at No. 3 and Currie's 24.17 moved her into the No. 5 spot.
Jayla Lawrence turned in a standout meet with personal records in both the 200m (24.53) and 400m (1:00.97), while freshman Madison Linscomb posted a career-best 5.60m in the long jump and made her high jump debut at 1.41m.
In the women's high jump, Amara Thomas cleared 1.66m to place eighth in a highly competitive field.
On Day Two, Watson and Dorsett started the meet with a hot start posting a season best in 60 meters. Dorsett ran a 7.41, and Watson followed close behind with a 7.42.
Linscomb recorded another career best in the field posting a 10.77m in the shot put.
The 4x400 relay closed off an electric meet by solidifying their spot in program history. Alanna Smith, Currie, Lawrence and Watson worked together to post a 3:44.78 that is a No. 4 all-time mark.
