BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Georgia Southern opened the 2026 SBC Indoor Championships with a statement performance on Day One, producing multiple finalists, a podium finish, and a wave of season and personal best marks across the board.
The sprint squad set the tone early. Shatalya Dorsett and NaJ Watson each punched tickets to two finals, qualifying in both the 60m and 200m. In the 60m prelims, the pair matched times of 7.40 – a season best for both – earning the No. 3 and No. 6 qualifying spots for Tuesday's final. They returned in the 200m and dominated the field, where Watson's 23.32 and Dorsett's 23.45 secured the top two qualifying times overall.
In the hurdles, Virginia Commonwealth transfer Myzhane Solomon delivered a season-best 9.26 in the 60m hurdles, continuing a strong debut conference showing.
Veteran Kennedy Hood highlighted the field events with a podium performance, capturing bronze in the long jump with a mark of 5.94m. Teammates Jailah Lee (5.57m), Trinity Lavant (5.50m) and Gamyzhae Williams (5.48m) added depth with top-20 finishes, placing 13th, 15th and 17th respectively.
