Storylines: Georgia Southern continues a five-game homestand against Maryland Eastern Shore this weekend. The Eagles and Hawks meet for the first time in a four-game series in Statesboro. GSU opened the season with a 3-1 record against teams from the state of Georgia and will play their first team from outside the state lines on Friday. The Eagles are 28-3 all-time against teams from the MEAC conference and last met a MEAC team in 2011 when they swept N.C. Central.
Promotions: 2 for 1 Day on Saturday. One regular price ticket gains admission to both games of the double header. Sunday is Junior Eagle Club Sunday Funday. Junior Eagle Club members get free admission and can enjoy bounce houses from Crazy Nick's Inflatables, free popcorn and run the bases after the game.
Team Scope
Ga. Southern: The Eagles are off to a 3-1 start against Georgia and Georgia Tech. A year ago they started 4-1 with wins over Georgia, Florida and Indiana. The Eagles are hitting .356 with a .517 slugging percentage as a team and have 10 or more hits in all three of their wins. GSU tallied four doubles for the second time this season in the 4-3 win over Georgia Tech and have 2 or more doubles in all four games this season. Jason Richman and Matt McCall have earned the win and the save, respectively, in the last two games. McCall has struck out eight batters in 7.1 innings and is holding opponent batters to a .048 average.
Maryland Eastern Shore: Former major leaguer Pedro Swann leads the Hawks in his second season in Princess Anne. Maryland Eastern Shore went 8-45 a year ago and returns six starting position players and eight pitchers from the 2013 team. The Hawks were set to open the season at South Florida but the games were canceled due to travel problems caused by the winter storm a week ago. They opened their season at George Washington on Wednesday and fell 3-2.
Who's Hot: Aaron Mizell remains hot after picking up three hits and a RBI in the mid-week win over Georgia Tech. He is 9 for 17 with five runs scored, six RBI, two doubles and two home runs. ... The 2013 team offensive MVP, Byron Campbell, picked up two hits and scored a run in the season opener.

Friday, Feb. 21
LHP Sam Howard (1-0, 0.00) vs. RHP Devin Repine (0-0, 0.00)
Sam Howard tossed five scoreless innings and held the Georgia Bulldogs to three hits in a season-opening 9-3 win. Howard struck out seven and walked one batter in the season opener. The junior left-hander is 10-8 with a 5.23 ERA in 36 career appearances and 15 starts. Howard ranks fourth among active SoCon pitchers for career wins and fourth with a 9.16 strikeouts per 9 IP.
Devin Repine served as the Hawk's closer for the 2013 season but will enter the rotation this year and make the series-opening start. Repine posted a 1-2 record with four saves and a 4.20 ERA in 13 games last season. The junior right-hander has thrown only 23.1 innings in his career at UMES but will make his first career start on Friday night.
Saturday, Feb. 22
RHP Josh Wirsu (0-1, 27.00) vs. RHP Chipper Smith (0-0, 0.00)
Josh Wirsu allowed seven runs on four hits and three walks in the 11-3 loss to Georgia in game two of the doubleheader on Saturday. Wirsu lasted two innings and struck out three batters in his Eagle debut. The Gordon State College transfer looks to get back on track in his second start of the season.
Chipper Smith made seven starts for the Hawks a year ago and was 1-6 with a 5.85 ERA in 16 appearances. He logged 52.1 innings and struck out 20 batters while walking 32.
Saturday, Feb. 22
RHP Avery Fagan (0-0, 7.73) vs. RHP Phillip Berry (0-0, 0.00)
Avery Fagan allowed two runs on two hits and two walks in a relief appearance against Georgia in the 11-3 loss in game two of last Saturday's doubleheader. The freshman right-hander is set to make his first career start on Saturday.
Phillip Berry joins the Hawks from Milford High School in Milford, Del., where he lettered in four sports and was a two-time All-Henlopen Conference selection. Berry helped Milford to a conference title and three division championships. He will make his career debut on Saturday.
Sunday, Feb. 23
RHP Ryan Frederick (0-0, 6.77) vs. TBA
Ryan Frederick made the start in Sunday's 18-4 victory at Georgia but left with a no decision after giving up two runs on four hits over 2.2 innings pitched. Frederick walked three and struck out two batters in his return to baseball.
Georgia Southern Review
Georgia Southern picked up their third win in four games against teams from the state of Georgia on Wednesday after persevering in a one-run game against Georgia Tech. The Eagles tied the game at 1-1 on a Garrett Chapman home run in the second inning and scored two runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead headed into the fifth inning. The Yellow Jackets pulled within a run with a two-run seventh inning, but Matt McCall shut the door for his second save of the season.
