Storylines: Georgia Southern returns home from a season-opening weekend series win at Georgia to host Georgia Tech in a mid-week contest on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and Head Football Coach
Willie Fritz will toss out the first pitch. Georgia Tech went 1-2 in the Battle for Midtown over the weekend and holds a 93-30 record in the all-time series including seven wins in the last 10 meetings.

Team Scope
Ga. Southern: The Eagles scored 30 runs, the most in a three game series since 4/1-3, 2011 against The Citadel, and hit . 356 with eight doubles and three home runs. GSU tallied 20 hits for the first time since that 2011 Citadel series in Sunday's series finale against the Bulldogs. The Eagles tallied 16 hits, with four doubles, and scored nine runs in a 9-3 season-opening victory.
Ben Morgan extended his hitting streak to eight games after the weekend and hit .357 with five hits and three RBI in the Georgia series. The Eagles begin their 31-game home slate on Wednesday against in-state Georgia Tech.
Georgia Tech: The Yellow Jackets opened the season with a 6-5 win over Old Dominion after Thomas Smith drove in the game-winning run in the seventh with a single. The Friday night win was the lone victory for Georgia Tech in the Battle for Midtown. The Yellow Jackets were limited to two hits, none until the seventh inning, and fell 3-1 to Radford in game two and 5-3 to VCU in game three. Georgia Tech's pitching staff posted a 3.00 ERA on the weekend and struck out 19 batters to just eight walks, but the bats hit just .202 and recorded eight extra-base hits.
Who's Hot: Aaron Mizell posted six hits in 13 at-bats with a double and two home runs over the weekend. He drove in five runs and finished a triple shy of the cycle in Sunday's 18-4 win at Georgia. ... Matt Gonzalez is the only Yellow Jacket regular hitting over .300 and went four for 10 with three doubles and two RBI in the Battle for Midtown.

Eric Alonzo will make his first start for the Eagles on Wednesday. The junior college transfer threw 1.2 innings in the season opener at Georgia and allowed an unearned run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts. Alonzo inherited a base runner in the sixth inning and after two runs scored on a throwing error, ended the frame with a strikeout of Heath Holder. Alonzo retired the side in order in the seventh inning before giving way to
Jason Richman.
Zac Ryan allowed the game-winning run on a Chris Coia single in the sixth inning of Georgia Tech's 3-1 loss to Radford on Saturday. Ryan suffered the loss in his first career appearance for the Yellow Jackets after giving up a run on two hits and a pair of walks over one inning. Ryan also struck out two of the seven batters he faced.
Georgia Southern Review
Georgia Southern rolled to a 9-3 victory behind five scoreless frames from
Sam Howard in the season opener at Georgia. The Eagles tallied 16 hits, three each from
Chase Griffin and
Stryker Brown. Griffin drove in three runs with a bases-clearing double in the sixth inning. Georgia evened the series with an 11-3 win in game two of a doubleheader. The Eagles were held to three runs on six hits while the Bulldogs jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings. GSU came back in game three on Sunday and pounded out 11 runs in the third inning of the series finale.
Aaron Mizell homered twice and drove in five runs while finishing a triple shy of the cycle in the 18-4 victory.

MIZELL'S BANNER DAY
Aaron Mizell hammered two home runs and drove in five runs while finishing a triple shy of the cycle in the 18-4 win over Georgia on Feb. 16. Mizell is the first Eagle since T.D. Davis on Feb. 22, 2013 to record five RBI and 10 total bases in a game. Mizell opened the series finale with a ground out and drove in the second run of the 11-run third inning with a sacrifice fly. Mizell later capped off the rally with a two-run homer. Mizell homered again in his next at-bat in the fifth inning, singled in the sixth inning and plated a run with a double in the eighth.
EAGLES TALLY 20 HITS
Georgia Southern recorded their first 20 hit day since 2011 when they recorded 21 hits in the 18-4 series finale at Georgia. The Eagles got four hits from
Aaron Mizell, three from
Ben Morgan,
Chase Griffin and
Kody Adams and two from
Garrett Chapman,
Stryker Brown and
Dalton Busby. In all, seven of the nine starters recorded a hit and all seven finished with multi-hit games.
