Three Eagles Advance To Finals At Rain-Shortened Event
TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Spartanburg, Sc. – The final day of the Wofford Invitational featured six Eagles competing in singles matches. The rain-shortened event meant that only one round of singles matches would be played on day three, and the best result would be making it to the final of each bracket. With this goal in mind, three Eagles advanced to the finals of their brackets capping off a successful fall season.
In the "Black Singles" bracket, Mary Phillips Smith won a three-set semi-final thriller over Shannon Bettiol of Western Carolina 7-5, 4-6, 10-5 to advance to the final.
Teammate Anne Kurzweil dominated Christine Boissevain of University of North Carolina Asheville 6-3, 6-3 to win her semi-final match in the "Wofford Singles" bracket and advance to the final.
In the "College Singles" bracket, Daria Vasekina advanced to the final by a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Wofford's Mareli Sanchez in the semi-finals.
Jordana Klein was defeated by Rokia Sacko 6-4, 3-6, 4-10 in the semi-finals of the "Gold Singles" bracket.
Teammate, Lauren Mueller, was set back by Antonia Conze in the semi-finals of the "Terrier Singles" bracket 3-6, 1-6.
Francisca Norregaard fell to Virginia Tech's Mariana Silva in a back-draw match of the "Gray Singles" bracket 3-6, 4-6.
The Eagles will now take a break before returning to action in the Championship portion of their schedule on Sunday January 25th against Alabama State from the Wallis Tennis Center.
