Ristomatti Lanne Gets The Singles Win In Straight Sets
DAILY RESULTS | @gsathletics_mt
STATESBORO, Ga. – Day Two of the ITA Regionals saw two Eagles in action. To begin the day, senior Kyle Hoffman and Junior Ristomatti Lanne joined forces in doubles action, but fell in the round of 32 to the tandem of Jake Bouchillon and Manuel Castellanos of Kennesaw Sate (8-3).
Head Coach Nick Zieziula commented, "'It was a very disappointing match, we started by holding our service games well under control and had 3 break point opportunities receiving in our first 3 return games. We didn't convert those chances and they converted in the first return game where they had a break point. We didn't break their momentum after that."
Turning their focus to Singles, Lanne squared off against Reece Acree of the University of Central Florida at 2 p.m. from the Dog Magill Tennis Complex. Lanne got the victory in straight sets winning 6-2, 6-4. In the second set, leading 5-4 with service, Lanne began the 6th game with two huge serves to take a 30-love lead. That momentum carried him to the straight set win. "Rise played a very solid first set of singles today," said Zieziula. "He got an early break and managed his service games really well. The second set there were some opportunities to pull away and finish the match quickly that we didn't capatalize on but the focus didn't waiver."
Hoffman took the court at 3:30 p.m. against Florida State's Marco Nunez and fell in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. He will now compete in the singles consolation bracket. Zieziula commented, "Kyle was making good tactical decisions in his match but didn't execute on a few critical points to take care of his service games. Marco served well today and Kyle wasn't able to create enough opportunities in his return games."
Competition will get underway on Day Three at 11 a.m. with Lanne battling Austin Smith from the University of Georgia in the round of 32. Hoffman will compete at 1:30 p.m. against Florida Atlantic University's Richard Meade.
