Eagles get back on the winning track with win over the Roadrunners at Wallis
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern men's tennis got back on the winning track on Saturday by picking up a 4-2 win over visiting UTSA at the Wallis Tennis Center.
The Eagles moved to 4-3 on the season with the win, while UTSA remains winless at 0-9. Georgia Southern returns to action on March 7-8, making a weekend trip to Florida to take on North Florida on Saturday and Stetson on Sunday.
Dominant doubles performances at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles gave the Eagles the doubles point and a 1-0 lead as the two duos dropped just one game combined.
Albert Saar then put the Eagles up 2-0 quickly with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. The Roadrunners got a point at No. 6 singles, but Willy Mirarchi earned the third point for GS with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. After UTSA took a win at No. 1 singles, Edoardo Santoni clinched the victory with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles.
"I'm really happy with how our guys bounced back today," Georgia Southern head men's tennis coach Andrew Goodwin said. "We are at our best when we identify with our toughness and willingness to push those around us. We are going to keep getting better and better with these things moving forward."
