STATESBORO, Ga. -- Georgia Southern Women's Tennis has a big weekend ahead of them, taking on Southern Conference foes Davidson and Appalachian state in two weekend matches. The Eagles travel to Davidson, N.C. for a match-up with the Wildcats at 11 a.m. on Saturday before heading to the mountains to take on the Mountaineers on Sunday at noon.
"The team is really looking forward to the matches this weekend. Both teams we're very competitive with. We're working hard to make sure that we're playing at the top of our game. We've had a lot of non conference matches and three conference matches so far so we are using those experiences as well as the early season to prepare us for those tough conference matches this weekend," said Head Coach Amy Bonner.
The Eagles (4-6, 2-1 SoCon) are coming off a big 6-1 non-conference victory against Savannah State at the Hanner Tennis Complex on March 9. All five singles wins came in straight sets and the Eagles lost only two games total in those singles wins. The squad also swept the doubles point with wins on all three courts.
The Wildcats haven't seen any conference action yet but have compiled an overall record of 7-2 that includes a big upset win over No. 72 East Carolina on Thursday.
The Mountaineers are 9-4, 2-0 in SoCon on the season and are in the midst of a four-day away trip including back to back matches on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before meeting the Eagles on Sunday.
Georgia Southern will head to Hilton Head on Wednesday and Thursday for some spring break action against Nebraska Ohama and Kansas before returning home for five consecutive SoCon home matches.
