STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern's Steve Cochrane was named the Southern Conference's Baseball Player of the Week on Monday, February 28th. The senior first baseman hit .412 (7-17) with two home runs and 13 RBIs during five games last week.
Cochrane hit a pair of home runs and scored eight runs to help the Eagles go 4-1 last week. He came up big in the ninth inning of the win over #21 Georgia Tech. Cochrane drew a walk with the bases loaded to plate the tying run.
The Mooresville, N.C. native drove in the first two runs in the second game against the Yellow Jackets with a home run off fourth-round draft pick Matt Grimes.
Cochrane recorded seven RBIs just two short of the school record in Sunday's 20-4 win over North Carolina Central. The senior drove in a run in all but one plate appearance and launched his second home run of the season in the fifth inning.
He and the Georgia Southern Baseball team hit the road for the first time in 2011 on Wednesday, March 2nd. The Eagles will face North Florida at 7 p.m. before returning home for a three-game series with St. John's this weekend.
