HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a quiet Eagle first, the Monarchs used back-to-back homers with two outs in their first frame with the bats to take an early 3-0 lead.
- The Eagles stranded two in their second as after Brady extended his hit streak to nine with a leadoff single and a Nico Senese walk, two flyouts ended the frame.
- In the Eagle third, a leadoff walk from Edwards and a single from McCoy put two on before a sac-bunt put them both in scoring position. The next batter saw Bryson Trammell pick up a sac-fly to make it 4-1.
- The Monarchs scored another in the third, after a leadoff double from Leite saw him eventually score on Stallings single. However, Garrett's late strikeout limited the damage.
- The next two innings remained quiet until the top of the sixth inning when White led off with a double down the right field line before a Monarch error off the bat of Trammell scored him to make it 5-2.
- The Monarchs got the run back in the bottom half of the frame, however, as Johnson reached aboard with a leadoff single before advancing to third off a stolen base and wild throwdown. He later scored off a shallow sac-fly to make it 6-2.
- The Eagles couldn't deliver in the top of the seventh with two runners in scoring position, as a two-out punchout retired the inning.
- After the stretch, the Monarchs loaded the bags after a single, walk and error on a bunt. However, Burke delivered by striking out Slater, forcing Felton to whiff on a suicide squeeze for the easy out at home and forcing a groundout to not allow a single run home.
- In the Eagle eighth, White singled for his third hit and advanced to second off a ball that went out of play. Two groundouts moved White up two bases, scoring the Eagles' third and final run of the contest.
NOTES:
- White had a perfect 3-3 afternoon, and was his first three-plus hit outing since his four against Marshall on March 20th.
- Thomas Burke provided one of his best bullpen outings of his career, going three full innings and allowed no earned runs, two hits and struck out two Monarchs.
- The duo of Ethan Garrett and Alex Mason combined for three scoreless innings themselves as each allowed one hit, no runs and had two strikeouts.
UP NEXT:
- The Eagles return home for their first midweek in almost two months as they take on The Citadel on Wednesday (April 22nd). First pitch for Salute to Service Night is set for 6 PM at J.I.
