Women?s Tennis Falls at Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In the first of three road matches for Georgia Southern, the Eagles fell 7-0 at Samford Saturday morning (April 10). The loss dropped the Eagles to 10-8 overall and 4-4 in Southern Conference action, while Samford improved to 15-5, 6-1.
The win snapped a two-match win streak the Eagles were riding entering the match.
Samford opened play with a sweep of the doubles matches. The Bulldogs dropped only four games en route to seizing the doubles point.
Lindsey Mallory and Taylor Morgan defeated Ashley Hungerford (Clearwater, Fla.) and Melanie Rolle (Gainesville, Fla.) at the top seed, 8-1, while Rebecca Kirven and Andrie Meiring edged Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Allison Beeler (Alpharetta, Ga.), 8-3, at the two seed. Samford completed the sweep with an 8-0 decision over Kristi Kegerreis (Fairfax, Va.) and Christine Caforio (Acworth, Ga.) at the three seed.
The Bulldogs cruised in singles action to secure the conference win and rode an early momentum after taking first sets on all courts. Samford completed the singles sweep, winning on all six courts in straight sets.
Georgia Southern will return to play at Chattanooga on Sunday, April 11. First serve is slated for 12 p.m.
