Eagles Complete ITA Southeast Regional Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – The Georgia Southern Women's Tennis team finished play at the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships. The annual tournament was contended at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia campus.
Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.), Paola Garrido (Vigo, Spain), Melanie Rolle (Gainesville, Fla.) and Ashley Hungerford (Clearwater, Fla.) made the trip representing the Eagles in the fall tournament. Play opened on Friday, October 23 with two rounds of singles play and one round of doubles action and continued on Saturday.
Beavers, Garrido and Rolle each competed in singles action. Beavers dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Mackenzie Swindall of Kennesaw State, while Garrido fell in straight 6-0 sets to Cameron Ellis of host Georgia. Rolle rounded out main draw play falling to Loreto Alonso Martinez of South Florida, 6-1, 6-4.
The Eagles all moved into the back draw consolation bracket on Saturday. Beavers won her first round matchup facing off against Florida A&M's Deke Olagbegi. Beavers defeated Olagbegi in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, before falling to Florida International's Lisa Johnson, 6-1, 6-2. Garrido succumbed to Miami's Kayla Rizzolo, 6-1, 6-1, while Rolle fell to Florida Gulf Coast's Morgan Bechtel, 6-0, 6-3.
Two doubles tandems represented the Eagles on Friday. Beavers and Garrido paired up and dropped a tough decision to Georgia Tech's Rocio Alberca Lopez and Muriel Wacker, 9-7. Rolle teamed up with Hungerford to fall to Aline Berkenbrock and Melanie Aguirre of North Florida, 8-3.
