FEATURE: Emma Chapman Makes The Most Of Her Time In The 'Boro

Fourth-year midfielder has packed plenty of memories into her time on and off the pitch with Georgia Southern
STATESBORO - Fourth-year midfielder Emma Chapman has not been in the 'Boro for as long as some of her teammates, but her journey to Georgia Southern has already been a memorable one for her soccer and academic career - and that journey is not over yet.
Chapman's connection to soccer began almost as soon as she could walk. Born into a soccer family as her father Campbell is a former professional player and current coach, she grew up on the pitch with a passion that never faded. "I started playing soccer at 3 years old," Chapman said. "As soon as I started walking, I had a ball at my feet, according to my parents."
That early start laid the foundation for a lifelong love of the game. Even while trying other sports as a child, soccer always stood out. "I played and competed in many sports growing up, but soccer was always my favorite one," she said. Now at Georgia Southern, Chapman has turned that childhood passion into a collegiate career defined by perseverance, friendship, and a deep appreciation for the community that supports her.
Finding Her Way To Eagle Nation
Chapman's journey to Statesboro wasn't a straight line. She began her college career at Miami of Ohio, but redshirted the 2023 season there. She then transferred to Georgia State, where she played in 10 matches during the 2024 campaign, before ultimately finding her home with the Eagles. "Being in the transfer portal for a second time was a stressful and uncertain experience, because there were so many questions about where I would end up and what the next step in my soccer career would look like," she said.
Everything changed the day she visited Georgia Southern. "When I came on my visit, I knew instantly this was the place for me," Chapman said. The immediate connection with the program, campus and people made the decision clear. "I am so grateful that Coach Adams took a chance on me and gave me the opportunity to be a part of this incredible program," she added. The move proved to be the perfect fit, both academically and athletically, and also provided the stability and support she needed to thrive.
The People Behind Her Journey
Throughout her journey, Chapman's parents have been her guiding force. "My parents have definitely had the biggest influence on my life so far and have shaped me into the person I am today," she said. Their unwavering support carried her through every challenge, including injuries and the uncertainty of transferring. "They have always been my biggest supporters in anything I do, and I can talk to them about everything and anything in my life," she said.
That sense of belonging expanded when she arrived at Georgia Southern, thanks to the friendships she formed. Assigned to live with teammates she'd never met, Chapman found an instant connection. "My biggest memory at Georgia Southern is being roomed with Caitlin Conroy and Maryann Beach, who are now two of my best friends," she said. The trio quickly became a support system for one another, creating a home away from home. "Living together has given us so many wonderful memories, and I'm so thankful Georgia Southern brought us all together," she said.
Goals Both On and Off the Field
While Chapman's love for soccer remains at the heart of her college experience, her goals reach beyond the pitch. As an economics and international business major, the work in the classroom is hard but ultimately rewarding. "I hope to build a career that allows me to use what I've learned while also continuing to grow and explore new opportunities," Chapman, who was named a CSC Academic All-District team member in 2025, said.
She's particularly interested in economics, finance and investments, hoping to work abroad someday. "I would love the opportunity to work in the United Kingdom, as I am a citizen there," Chapman said. She embraces the uncertainty of the future, seeing it as a chance to discover new paths. "I'm still figuring out what I want my career to be specifically, and I think that uncertainty is part of what makes the future so exciting," she said.
Gratitude for Eagle Nation
With a lot of work left to do on the field and in the classroom, Chapman is still thankful for Georgia Southern and Eagle Nation helping her find a true home. "I want to thank Eagle Nation for all the love and support they have given our team throughout my time here," she said. "I am so grateful to be a part of such a special and supportive community, and I am so honored to be a Georgia Southern athlete."
