HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a slow Eagle first, the Mountaineers slapped a leadoff double to left field before he scored from Puig's RBI single. A batter later, Miller brought everyone home with a two-run homer that made it 3-0 after one.
- The Eagles nearly matched their rivals in their second, as Sean White and Nico Senese went for back-to-back solo homers to cut the deficit to just one.
- In the bottom of the second, consecutive one out singles put two on before an Eagle error scored an unearned run to make it 4-2.
- The Mountaineers started their third with a bang, as Miller mashed his second homer of the night in as many ABs.
- The next batter saw a single and walk before a sac-bunt single also amounted to an error on the throwdown to first to score another. Still with none away a sac-fly and single pushed the lead all the way up to 8-2.
- In App's fourth, their hit parade continued as Miller tied their school record with a third homer on the night before two RBI knocks from DuPont and Zamora added on four more.
- The Eagles fought to get one in the fifth, as Frank Wells' leadoff single saw him reach second off a stolen base. With two away and two strikes, Brady Christman grounded through the infield to plate him and cut the deficit to single digits.
- The Mountaineers had their third consecutive four-run inning in the fifth, as just two singles were enough to plate four, complimented by three different pitchers and five free bases.
- Despite holding App State to their first scoreless frame of the night in the sixth, Southern could not respond in the seventh to fall in run-rule fashion.
NOTES:
- James McCoy's single in the second extended his hit streak to a dozen, tying him for the longest by an Eagle this season.
- White and Senese's consecutive homers were their firsts in a while. White last had one on March 17th at Kennesaw State while Senese had one just 12 days ago against South Alabama.
