HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After allowing two infield hits and a fielder's choice beat out by a Citadel runner, the bags were loaded in the top of the first. However, a 6-4-3 double play with one away ended the threat with no damage.
- In the bottom of the first, back-to-back singles from Bennett Edwards and James McCoy put two on before a double play the next batters extinguished the inning's flame.
- In the Bulldogs' third, a one out single from Daniels and a double a batter later from Anderson scored him after a passed ball to make it 1-0 Citadel.
- An inning later, The Citadel a leadoff walk and error on a bunt attempt led to the Bulldogs scoring two unearned runs off Daniels' triple, which came after two straight strikeouts, for them to make it 3-0.
- The Eagles responded in the bottom of the fourth as a leadoff single from McCoy put two on after a walk two batters later. Brady Christman delivered an RBI-double to left field to put the Eagles on the board. However, a fielder's choice play at the plate took off any more runs that could come across.
- The following two half-innings saw both squads go down in order.
- The teams stayed quiet until the seventh inning, when the Bulldogs exploded for seven runs, using five hits and an Eagle error to plate six and expand their lead to 9-1.
- Southern salvaged one after the stretch with pinch hitter Max Prozny's RBI-single to score Myers, who doubled to lead off the frame.
- The Citadel responded in the eighth in the exact same fashion, with Stratis singling home Anderson, who doubled.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Southern got one more run on the board as after Christman doubled and advanced to third, Nico Senese grabbed a late RBI with a sac-fly to close out the contest, 10-3.
NOTES:
- Christman didn't use the home run ball, but the double instead, to cause damage. It was his first multi-double game of his career.
- James McCoy's two hits on the evening extended his hit streak to eleven, just two shy of the most by an Eagle this season.
- On the mound, there were some bright spots. The four trio of Will Robbins, Jayden White and Holden Wade combined for five innings without allowing an earned run.
- In his 1.1 innings work, White retired his four batters via the K, his new career high on the mound.
UP NEXT:
- The Eagles get set for their penultimate road conference series as they get set to take on App State on Friday (April 24th). First pitch in Boone is set for 6 PM.
