Georgia Southern Cruises Past Cougars 7-1

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern Eagles (13-18) used an explosive second inning and solid pitching from Alana Barnard to defeat the College of Charleston Cougars (16-18), 7-1, on Tuesday evening.
After a quiet start through the first trailing 1-0, the Eagles found their rhythm in the second, scoring six runs.
Kayla Christensen with a two RBI single that sparked the offense, setting the tone for a multi-run frame, while Jaycee Bilbrey delivered key hits to drive in runs and give Georgia Southern an early advantage.
The Eagles continued to apply pressure in the fourth and extended their lead, capitalizing on scoring opportunities with runners in position. Delanie Thames delivered a two-run homer – her eighth of the season – in a big moment to put the game out of reach.
At the plate, Georgia Southern pieced together a balanced offensive effort with multiple players contributing key hits.
The Eagles went 11-for-28 at the plate, scoring seven runs and driving in seven RBIs, highlighted by multiple extra-base hits including two doubles and a home run.
The Cougars avoided the shutout with a run late in the contest, but Georgia Southern's pitching staff remained in control throughout. The Eagles limited damage, kept traffic off the bases and closed out the 7-1 victory.
