Eagles Stumble to Buccaneers, 14-8, in Tuesday Contest
3/24/2026 10:28:00 PM | Baseball
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Eagles loaded up the bags in the opening three batters after a leadoff single, walk and bunt single. Unfortunately, the next batter saw a sharp line drive caught by the Buccaneers' first baseman and tagged out White at first for two quick outs. A groundout later stranded two in scoring position early for Georgia Southern.
- The Buccaneers exploded for nine runs, the most scored by any team in an inning in a contest for the Eagles this season. The half inning included six hits, four walks and two hit batters, including a grand slam from Blake Edgmon.
- After a scoreless second, Charleston Southern tacked on one in their third to increase their lead to double digits.
- A four-run, four-hit fourth went the Buccaneers with them having three straight singles to push their advantage to 14-0.
- The Eagles broke the scoreboard in their fifth with RBis from a Frank Wells single and Jonathan Jaime to make it a 12-run deficit.
- Georgia Southern one-upped their previous inning, scoring three in their sixth with help from a two-RBI double from Bennett Edwards and a Jack Myers RBI-single to make it 14-5.
- The Eagles held the Buccaneers to three straight scoreless frames starting in the fifth, including stranding two runners in scoring position in the seventh.
- In the eighth, Georgia Southern threatened again by loading the bases with one away, all from walks, but a 5-4-3 double play ended things early.
- Georgia Southern would not go down easy in their final chance at the plate, using three walks and a single to plate one before Brady Christman's two-RBI single to make it 14-8.
NOTES:
- Edwards' sixth inning double made it five straight games where the freshman has gone for multiple hits on the same night, including six of his last seven outings.
- Jayden White had another steady outing of relief, throwing 2.1 innings while only allowing just a single run and a hit while striking out two Buccaneers for nearly a mirror image of his last outing against Marshall on Sunday.
- Freshman Kade Kisz got his first career base knock with a 104 mph laser to shortstop in the seventh.
- The Eagles hit into double plays in four straight innings from the 5th-8th, their most in a contest this season.
- 43 combined players participated in the game tonight, with 22 of them from the Eagles roster.
- After trailing 14-0, the Eagles scored eight unanswered from the fifth inning on.
- Jax Lewis was a major contributing factor in keeping the Buccaneers' off the board in the later innings, tossing 3.2 innings of no-run baseball, giving up just three hits and three strikeouts.
UP NEXT:
- The Eagles stay in town for another midweek bout against the College of Charleston Cougars tomorrow night (Wednesday, Mar. 25th). First pitch at Patriot's Point is set for 6 PM.
