Kishyah Anderson named Player of the Year; Hana Haden Coach of the Year and three Eagles earn All-Conference honors
STATESBORO - The Sun Belt Conference champion Georgia Southern women's basketball team was well represented in Monday's release of the league's All-Conference Awards. Kishyah Anderson was named the Sun Belt Player of the Year while Hana Haden was named the league's Coach of the Year.
In addition, three Eagles earned spots on the All-Conference teams. Anderson was named to the first team, while Destiny Garrett nabbed a spot on the second team and McKenna Eddings earned a spot on the third team.
Anderson becomes only the third student-athlete in Georgia Southern women's basketball history to earn a conference Player of the Year award, joining GS Athletic Hall of Famers Phylette Blake (1986-87, 1988-89) and Regina Days-Bryan (1985-86, 1987-88), who twice earned NSWAC Player of the Year accolades. The Phoenix, Ariz., native was a three-time Sun Belt Player of the Week honoree this season and averaged 14.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while leading the league in field goal percentage at 52.1%. Her numbers in Sun Belt competition were even better, averaging 16.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while shooting 53.7% from the field.
Similarly, Haden is only the third head coach in Georgia Southern women's basketball history to earn a conference Coach of the Year honor. In her second season at the helm of the Eagles, she took a team picked to finish 10th in a preseason poll of the league's coaches and led Georgia Southern to a 23-6 overall record and a 16-2 Sun Belt mark, earning the first regular season conference title for Georgia Southern in 25 years. The Eagles have also achieved their first NCAA Mid-Major Poll national ranking, currently sitting at No. 15, and are currently No. 69 in the NCAA's NET selection rankings, a program best.
This is only the third time that Georgia Southern has had three All-Conference honorees in the same year, joining the 1994-95 SoCon team and the 1987-88 NSWAC squad. Anderson joins Terren Ward (2022-23, 2023-24) as the only first team All-Conference honorees in Sun Belt history.
Garrett earns a spot on the second team for leading the Eagles in scoring (15.1 ppg) and assists (3.9 apg) while leading the Sun Belt and ranking 23rd in NCAA Division I in minutes per game at 35.54. She has reached double digit scoring in 23 games and has surpassed 20+ points on seven occasions. The Bessemer, Ala., native ranks among the Top 10 in the Sun Belt in scoring, field goal percentage, assists and assists/turnover ratio.
Eddings, meanwhile, has been a stalwart offensive and defensive player for Georgia Southern this season, ranking fifth in the league in minutes per game (33.82) while ranking among the league's leaders in three-point shooting. She has reached double digit scoring in 22 games this season, including 12 of her last 13 going into the Sun Belt tournament. This is the first All-Sun Belt Conference honor for Anderson, Garrett and Eddings.
By virtue of earning the No. 1 seed, the Eagles will be in action in the 2026 Sun Belt Conference Championship semifinals on Sunday, March 8, in Pensacola, Fla. in Game 11 of the bracket against the winner of No. 4 seed JMU and the winner of Game 7. The Eagles will also receive their 2025-26 Sun Belt Conference Championship Trophy prior to the game in Pensacola.
