Eagles Fall to Owls in Seven Innings in Midweek Bout

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Despite a one-out double from James McCoy in the first, the Eagles could not capitalize in their opening frame.
- The Owls loaded the bases in the opening three batters off two walks and a Lyons double to deep right field. Kennesaw managed to get four runs across on their three hits of the inning.
- The Eagles got one back after Bryson Trammell stood aboard second following his leadoff walk. An Owls' error off the bat of Sammy Leis allowed him to score, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
- Kennesaw State got the run back off an RBI-double from KSU's McGee to make it 5-1. However, back-to-back batters retired from Craig Kalkbrenner got them out of the jam.
- Two walks and consecutive hit batters led to the Owls loading up the bases and scoring two before a three-RBI double from McCollum cleared the bases to make it 10-1.
- Kennesaw upped their lead to 11 after two singles and a double in the fourth.
- Connor Fugate escaped a bases-loaded situation by striking out an Owl with two outs in the fifth to hold off anyone with scoring.
- In the top of the sixth, a McCoy single set up an eventual Sean White opposite field homer that just slipped over the right field wall, making it 12-3.
- The owls would find success again in their sixth, using five hits (four of them singles) to plate five, upping their lead to 12.
- The Eagles managed to score more in the seventh thanks to help from two hit batters, two walks, an Owl error and a Jack Myers sac-fly to score three.
- The Owls would run-rule walk-off the Eagles in their seventh after Grayson McCollum singled with the bases loaded to end the contest.
NOTES:
- McCoy has now doubled in five of his last seven games with his first-inning double that went 103 off the bat. Tonight makes it now four straight two-hit nights for the senior.
- Dixon Adams made his collegiate debut, only allowing just a walk and hit batter in his two-thirds of an inning. He also ended his appearance by forcing a flyout in a bases-loaded jam.
- The Eagles host the Thundering Herd of Marshall for their first home Sun Belt series of 2026. First pitch Friday (March 20th) for Swing Into Spring Night is set for 6:30 PM at J.I. Clements Stadium.
