HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Dukes got the first run of a 2026 Sun Belt conference game to start the day in their first, as a leadoff double from Kyle Langley put a Duke in scoring position. He later came around to score following two deep fly balls to make it 1-0.
- A leadoff single from Bryson Trammell in the second later saw Brady Christman deliver a line drive to the gap. The Eagles were too aggressive on the bases, ending the inning with a throwdown at home.
- Three runs were added on by JMU in the second off three hits, including two doubles, to extend their early advantage to 4-0.
- The Eagles' woke up their bats after a hit batter and consecutive singles from James McCoy and Jack Myers loaded the bags. Sean White put Southern on the board after his RBI-groundout.
- The momentum kept going into the fourth as a leadoff single from Max Prozny put an Eagle on. The first pitch Nico Senese saw in his AB right after was a deep fly into left-center that sailed over the wall for a two-run homer, his first of the season.
- The Eagles completed the comeback later that inning after Brady Christman reached on a walk and advanced himself to third. McCoy brought him home from a sac-fly, evening the game at four each.
- The Dukes responded in the bottom of the fifth using a walk, two singles and a sac-bunt to put up two runs with only one retired off the bunt.
- JMU added six more runs in the sixth, all of which were unearned after a fielding error from Senese. A hit batter followed by an errant pickoff attempt put both runners in scoring position. Two singles, a sac-fly and back-to-back homers from Jack Cannizzaro and Wyatt Campbell extended the Dukes' lead to 12-4.
- The Eagles got one back after a Sean White solo homer, a ball that rode the wind and traveled 418 feet over the left field wall.
- The Dukes immediately got theirs back in the next half inning, as Ike Schmidly had a two-run homer, their third of the day, to make it 14-5.
- In the ninth, Sean White singled in the infield to plate his second RBI of the day, but was all the Eagles could muster in the final frame.
NOTES:
- The homer from Senese would be his first of the season and fourth at Southern. His last two homers came against the Dukes, with his prior one coming on May 3rd of 2025.
- Sean White's homer in the seventh extended his current hitting streak to now seven games. The senior also has had base knocks in eleven of his last dozen contests.
- Jayden White made his third appearance of his career, going a full inning without allowing any hits or runs.
- McCoy and Prozny's bats stayed hot as they both had two hits on the afternoon. McCoy has had multi-hits in three of his last four games, with Prozny doing the same in four of his last five.

- The Dukes and Eagles continue their weekend series with the same first pitch to today's contest at 4 PM on Saturday, March 14th.
