
Eagles Blank Charleston Southern in Midweek Matchup

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Georgia Southern Eagles (11-12) used a big third inning and a dominant pitching performance from senior Alana Barnard to earn an 8-0 run-rule victory over Charleston Southern (5-20) on Tuesday evening at the CSU Softball Field.
After two scoreless innings, the Eagles broke through in the third inning with four runs.
Sophomore Semira Tigg started the rally with a triple before Brooke Kell brought her home on a fielder's choice to open the scoring. Later in the inning, senior Emma Davis delivered a sacrifice fly to plate another run before Braelyn Queen drove in two more with a double to give Georgia Southern a four-run lead.
The Eagles added another run in the fourth when Kayla Christensen singled to score Tigg and extend the advantage to 5-0, then later in the sixth, the lineup put the game away scoring three runs.
Freshman Jaycee Bilbrey drove in Tigg with an RBI single before Delanie Thames followed with a two-run double to center field, scoring Bilbrey and Christensen to cap the scoring at 8-0.
Christensen led the Eagles at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Queen and Thames each drove in two runs. Tigg also had a strong day, finishing 2-for-2 with three runs scored and a triple.
Tigg recorded career highs with two hits and three runs scored, while also notching the first triple of her career. Queen added a career-high two doubles.
In the circle, Barnard (3-6) delivered a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits across six innings while striking out one and facing only 21 batters.
Georgia Southern return to Eagle Field for the first time in two weeks to host its first conference opener against JMU on March 13-15. All games will be streamed on ESPN+.
