
Georgia Southern Track & Field Adds Tia Peoples as Throws Coach

STATESBORO – Georgia Southern Track & Field/Cross Country head coach David Neville announced the addition of Tia Peoples as the program's throws coach on July 1, 2026.
Peoples joins the Eagles after establishing herself as one of Florida's premier throws coaches, bringing extensive experience in athlete development, championship success and recruiting. Throughout her coaching career, she has guided numerous state champions, nationally ranked throwers and NCAA scholarship recipients while building a reputation for developing athletes at every level of competition.
Prior to joining Georgia Southern, Peoples served as the throws coach at Tampa Catholic High School and with Trailblazers Youth Athletic Ministry in Tampa, Florida. During her tenure, she coached multiple state qualifiers and state champions while helping eight athletes earn opportunities to compete at the NCAA level.
In the 2025-26 season, Peoples coached the recipient of the Florida Girls Track & Field Gatorade Athlete of the Year award, further demonstrating her ability to develop elite student-athletes.
Among her most notable accomplishments, she coached a nationally ranked thrower from the youth level through high school who captured seven Florida state championships before signing with the University of Texas. Under her guidance, athletes have earned top-five national rankings and competed among the nation's best in the shot put and discus.
A former collegiate thrower, Peoples competed at the University of South Florida under renowned coaches Bob Braman and Greg Thiel. During her collegiate career, she established the school record in the shot put and finished among the program's all-time top 10 throwers, providing firsthand experience competing at the highest collegiate level.
Known for her technical expertise, Peoples emphasizes event-specific skill development, strength and power training, competitive toughness and long-term athlete development. Her coaching philosophy focuses on maximizing each athlete's potential while fostering accountability, confidence and academic success.
In addition to her coaching experience, Peoples has organized throws camps, clinics and field event competitions to create opportunities for aspiring athletes and promote the growth of track and field throughout the community.
As Georgia Southern's throws coach, Peoples will oversee all aspects of the women's throws program, including recruiting, technical instruction, strength integration and competition preparation as the Eagles continue building a championship-caliber program.
