CLEMSON, S.C. – The Georgia Southern women's track & field team opened the 2026 indoor season Friday afternoon at the Clemson Invitational, competing against a strong field that included host Clemson, Tennessee, Georgia, Life, Charleston Southern and Johnson C. Smith at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.
"As an overall team, we saw some very good things from our ladies," head coach David Neville said. "There's a lot to build off of moving forward during the indoor season, but we have some great things to celebrate today. Coach Isaac and our jump squad had their best opener in the four years since I've been here".
The meet marked the Eagle debuts of five freshmen – Greta Caprathe, Jayla Daise, Zhai Holmes, Trin Lavant and Nia Levy – along with transfers Myzhane Solomon and Julia Versluis, as Georgia Southern began its indoor campaign at noon on Saturday, Jan. 10.
Youngsters Amara Thomas and Caprathe etched their names in program history. In her collegiate debut, Caprathe's 1.72m high jump broke the school record of 1.70m, that was set in 2009 by Melanie Trumbo. Thomas's 1.67m high jump moved up her up to No. 3, alongside Whitney Nelson ('00) and Kellie Mitchell ('04).
Veteran Eagles highlighted the day with several personal-best performances. Jailah Lee also posted a new personal record in the triple jump, landing a best mark of 12.09 meters.
Notching second place, Kennedy Hood continued her success in the long jump, recording a career-best mark of 6.14 meters to surpass her previous best of 6.11m. This mark moved her to third in record books alongside Kellie Mitchell ('03).
On the distance side, Tristen Crosby delivered a strong showing in the 3000 meters, crossing the line in a personal-best time of 10:35.21, improving on her previous mark of 10:50.06 set last season.
The Clemson Invitational provided an early test for the Eagles against top-tier competition as Georgia Southern looks to build momentum heading into the remainder of the indoor season.
