New Orleans, La. --- Two Eagles in
Josh Tate and
Sean Smith were named to the All-Sun Belt Teams this afternoon (May 19th), as announced by the conference office.
Josh Tate was named to the First Team All-Sun Belt an outfielder. The second-year Eagle not only leads the team, but leads the Sun Belt in multiple offensive categories for the 2025 season. He comfortably has the best batting average in the conference with his .371, and is 19 points ahead of second place in the category. He leads the conference also in both hits (86) and at bats (232), while also top-five in the Sun Belt in slugging pct. (.629), runs (57) and doubles (18). Tate has recorded a hit in all but six of the Eagles 56 games, with 28 of them going for multi-hit performances. Tate also currently has a ten game hitting streak and had a 14-game streak to start his campaign this year.
Sean Smith was also named as a Second Team All-Sun Belt member as an outfielder. Smith is among some of the best bats in the conference, as he is near the top in multiple categories. His .352 average is tied for second in the Sun Belt, and is top-ten in the conference in slugging pct. (.604) and OBP (.460). Playing in 47 games this season, Smith had a 19-game hitting streak during the season. Smith had 15 games of multi-base hits, with six of them going for three hits. Smith is second on the squad with his 56 hits, and also has nine doubles and home runs on 2025.
Georgia Southern next plays in the Sun Belt Tournament as the nine seed, where they will face eight-seeded Arkansas State at 7:30 PM ET at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Al. Tuesday evening (May 20th).
