Bobcats Take Series Over Eagles, Win 15-5
4/3/2026 6:41:00 PM | Baseball
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the bottom of the first, a leadoff walk gave way for Texas State's Galloway to turn on a ball and score them both on one pitch to make it 2-0 after just two batters.
- Despite two Ks in the frame from Carter DeGondea, two more singles from the Bobcats sent across another run to make it 3-0 early.
- Like the prior evening, Southern had a response. A one-out walk and hit-batter advanced both in scoring position off a fielder's choice. The next batter saw Jack Myers single up the middle to bring one home, but unfortunately, the Eagles could not muster any more after leaving the bases loaded.
- The Bobcats got the run right back off a solo shot from Vossos, as his second career homer made it 4-1.
- In the Eagles' third, a leadoff walk and Sean White single put runners on the corner with none gone. Unfortunately, two crucial strikeouts and a flyout couldn't scratch any across for Southern.
- After a 1-2-3 inning from Texas State, the Eagles started their fourth with a leadoff double by Nico Senese. Two batters later, Frank Wells mashed his first career homer to left field that cut the deficit to just one.
- After another scoreless inning, thanks to Craig Kalkbrenner in relief, the Eagles started the fifth with a double from Bryson Trammell. The following batter saw Brady Christman destroy a ball to left-center that traveled 455 feet for Southern to take their first lead of the series, 5-4.
- The advantage would not last long, unfortunately, as an RBI-single from Salas and a three-run homer by Stewart later in the inning gave Texas State four runs, getting an 8-5 lead back.
- The Bobcats upped the prior outing, mashing three and two-run homers in the following inning to stretch their lead to the largest of the series, 13-5.
- A solo homer and a sac-fly with the bags loaded in the eighth sealed the series for Texas State, winning 15-5.
NOTES:
- Freshman Frank Wells mashed his first career homer on the game, now making all nine starters for the Eagles with homers on the year.
- Christman has now hit homers in back-to-back games, now giving him a third-best four homers on the squad.
UP NEXT:
- The Eagles and Bobcats close out the series and the doubleheader shortly at Bobcat Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:25 PM ET in San Marcos tonight (April 3rd).
