GAINESVILLE, Fla.– Highlighted by
Imani Moore's record-shattering performance in the long jump, the Georgia Southern track and field team shined at the Florida Relays.
"We had a very successful weekend overall with our program. Coach Isaac has our jumpers on a roll right now and I think we are continuing to build off that momentum," head coach
David Neville said. "On the track, our sprinters and mid-distance ladies competed well. We will start sharpening up into the second half of our season!"
Moore kicked off the weekend with a jump of 6.36m / 20'10.5", breaking the school record of 6.28m set by Nicole Brown in 2006. That mark placed her in second place in the event's first round.
Leonaya Knox's mark of 13.64 in the 100m hurdles put her in second place in the record books.
Emily Wheldon followed suit in the 5K, placing fourth all-time at 18:28.08. In addition,
NaJ Watson's run of 11.33 in the 100m is believed to be the fastest all-conditions run in school history, which featured a wind reading of +2.7.
The Eagles had a few more highlights dotting the results during the two days.
Kennedy Hood won the long jump with a mark of 6.07m / 19'11" - seventh in school history - and
Jailah Lee set a new personal best in the triple jump with a performance of 12.48m / 40'11.5".
GS will be back in action next weekend for the final home meet of the year, hosting the Georgia Showdown.
