Eagles move to 27-21, 11-8 SBC
STATESBORO – Georgia Southern softball (27-21, 11-8 SBC) dropped game one of its three-game series against Marshall (27-21, 11-8 SBC) on Friday night at Beautiful Eagle Field.
Georgia Southern tallied just two hits in the contest off the bats of Gracie Bellard and Valerie Combs compared to the Thundering Herd's seven hits. The Eagles put runners on in the first five frames and stranded seven runners on base.
Marshall scored five unanswered runs beginning in the second inning plating three runs on three hits. Back-to-back doubles and a home run made way for the runs as a pair of strikeouts got the Eagles out of the jam.
The Thundering Herd would plate a run in the third and fifth inning on a solo home run and sacrifice bunt, for the final 5-0.
Maddie Johnson suffered the loss in the circle tossing just 2.1 innings allowing four runs on four hits while striking out four. Alana Barnard and Charla Clifton combined for 4.2 innings pitched allowing one run on three hits.

Georgia Southern looks to even the series against Marshall on Saturday at Beautiful Eagle Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+. Three Eagles will also participate in senior day festivities.
