Softball Falls to Thundering Herd, 6-2, on Saturday

Eagles look to bounce back tomorrow
STATESBORO – Georgia Southern softball (27-22, 11-9 SBC) fell to the Marshall Thundering Herd (28-21, 12-8 SBC), 6-2, on Saturday afternoon at Beautiful Eagle Field.
The Eagles honored three seniors: Gracie Bellard, Morgan Kendrick, and Faith Barth prior to first pitch.
Georgia Southern opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Madison Humber and Emma Davis drew a pair of walks to get runners on early for the Eagles before advancing up a base on a Faith Barth sacrifice bunt. Valerie Combs drove in the first run of the day on an RBI infield single before Payton Cushman extended the lead on a base hit up the middle.
Marshall cut the deficit in half on an RBI base hit, before exploding for five runs in the sixth inning to take the lead, 6-2.
Bailey Holland (7-7) suffered the loss in the circle tossing 5.1 innings allowing four runs on seven hits. Morgan Kendrick threw 1.2 innings in relief allowing two runs on two hits.
Six different Eagles tallied hits in the contest.
