Box Score ROME, Ga. - No. 2-seeded Georgia Southern moved into the semifinals of the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Championships with a 4-0 win over No. 7 seed Georgia State on Friday afternoon at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga.
The Eagles (17-6) will now face No. 6 seed Coastal Carolina - 4-3 winners over No. 3 seed South Alabama - at 2 p.m. in the Sun Belt semifinals on Saturday afternoon.
Georgia Southern picked up the doubles point from the Panthers thanks to 6-3 wins by Pol del Castillo and Dimitris Paliouras at No. 2 doubles and Pierre Mouesca and Matthew Mitchell at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, the Eagles claimed the first set in all six matches against Georgia State. Castillo made the score 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Gabriele Datei at No. 3 singles. Then, within two minutes, the Eagles clinched the victory with Mouesca's 6-2, 6-3 win over Aryan Singh at No. 4 singles and Mitchell's 6-3, 6-1 win over McKane Johnson at No. 6 singles.
"We feel good, we get to play another day," said head men's tennis coach Andrew Goodwin after the match. "We can't ask for much more. I thought our guys played tough out there. It wasn't pretty or perfect, but if you look at our team right now, it's a bunch of mullets and mustaches; we're not really concerned about appearance or how things look. It's just about toughing it out and getting it done."
