Old Dominion halts Georgia Southern's four-match win streak; Eagles next in action Friday at South Alabama
ELON, N.C. - No. 56-ranked Old Dominion collected a 4-0 victory over Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon in a neutral-site match played on the campus of Elon University.
The Monarchs improved to 14-5 on the season with the win, while Georgia Southern (9-7) had its four-match win streak halted. The Eagles will return to action on Friday, April 3, traveling to Mobile, Ala., to take on South Alabama in a 2 p.m. contest.
The doubles point came down to the wire as ODU took a win at No. 1 doubles, but the Eagles got a 6-3 win from Willy Mirarchi and Matthew Mitchell at No. 3 doubles. The Monarchs then claimed the doubles point with a win at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, the Eagles took the first sets in the top three singles spots, but the Monarchs won the first sets in the bottom three singles spots. Old Dominion was then able to close out those three singles matches in straight sets to clinch the victory.
