STATESBORO - Georgia Southern men's tennis finished off its 2025 non-conference slate with a 6-1 win over Mercer on Saturday afternoon at the Wallis Tennis Center.
The Eagles will take a 9-5 overall record into Friday's Sun Belt Conference opener against Troy. Mercer falls to 4-5 on the year with the loss.
The doubles point went to the Eagles as Dimitris Paliouras and Pierre Mouesca won, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles and Pol del Castillo and Matthew Mitchell picking up a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Eagles clinched the win with straight-set singles wins from del Castillo at No. 3 singles, Mouesca at No. 4 singles and reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week Laurent Julia Calac at No. 5 singles.
Mercer took a singles win at No. 2 singles, then Mitchell earned a straight-set win at No. 6 singles. Dimitris Paliouras provided the final margin by earning a third-set 10-point tiebreaker win over Nemanja Stefanovic at No. 1 singles.
"We're excited. We've been learning a lot about ourselves, just a little over the last two months," Georgia Southern head men's tennis coach Andrew Goodwin said. "We're learning who we are and we're learning what we bring and right now it's about consistently building ourselves up, knowing that we're capable of working through whatever is thrown at us. We're excited to put that on the line in the Sun Belt and can't wait to open it up next weekend with two formidable foes in Troy and South Alabama."
