Sean White Walkoff Caps Off Doubleheader Sweep of Brown

Statesboro, Ga. --- The Georgia Southern baseball team (10-6, 0-0 SBC) completed the sweep of Brown (0-10, 0-0 Ivy) by scores of 9-1 and 5-4, respectively, on a doubleheader Saturday afternoon (March 8th).

After both teams would record a hit each in the opening frame of game one, the Eagles would get on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second as an error by the Bears' third baseman with the bases loaded would plate a lone run before Brown would escape the inning. However, they would get their own back after a groundout would tie up the ball game with two runners in scoring position. Thankfully for starting pitcher Jax Lewis, he would get out the inning with no more harm.

After Daniel Haab would take back the lead from a RBI-double, the Eagles would eventually plate four more in the fifth the blow open the game, all of them from the long ball. Back-to-back home runs from Sean Smith and JP Herrholz would start the inning for Nico Senese to deliver a two-run shot just two batters later to make it 6-1. For Senese, it was his first home run as an Eagle.

Lewis would pass the torch to Will Robbins in the seventh inning to ride off into the sunset on a phenomenal outing. The redshirt-freshman went six innings, giving up just the one run and four hits while also striking out five. Robbins would also no allow a run in his three-inning stint, giving up two hits and striking out four.

The Eagles would add three more in their eighth after a single and two walks would load up the bases. The next batter, Sean Smith delivered a laser down the left-field line to clear the bags and add three more RBIs to his name on an already incredible season. In the next half inning, Will Robbins would retire the side to close out the game and the the Eagles' their third series of the year.

Game Two saw both offenses swap how they have been performing on the series so far. After both squads went 1-2-3 in the first, Brown would explode for three hits in the first four batters to take first blood in the final game of the series and another in the third and fifth innings to make it 3-0 early.

After Southern was being no-hit through four innings, Senese delivered a leadoff single to start up the offense. A Cade Parker double and a walk to Luke Odden would load up the bases. Josh Tate would walk in a run to put the Eagles on a board before an unlucky double play put two outs on the board. Smith would make it just a run-one deficit after a single to make it 3-2.  Brady Pendley would come in for relief and shut the Bears offense down. He would go for 4.2 innings and only allow a singular run and three hits, while punching out five.

The Eagles would tie it up in the bottom of the seventh inning from a sacrifice fly from J.C. Peacher, but not before Brown would steal the lead right back the next half inning from a triple and a single to plate one. The one-run innings would continue as the bottom of the eighth saw Southern collect a single, hit batter, and a walk to load the bases before Luke Odden flied out to deep centerfield to advance everyone and tie the game.

After shutting down Brown, the Eagles had a chance to win it. A leadoff hit batter and then two walks would load up the bases with only one out. The next batter, Sean White would lay down a bunt that went right to the pitcher. Unfortunately for Brown, he couldn't handle the transfer, and the Eagles would walk it off and complete the sweep, eclipsing their win total to double digits on the season.

With no midweek games upcoming, the Eagles can rest and get practice in before opening up conference play on the road at Coastal Carolina for a series starting Friday. First pitch in Conway is set for 6 PM this upcoming Friday, March 14th.
