Kade Grundy would start on the bump for the Eagles, and he would help out his pitching staff greatly by going 6.2 innings and tossing 104 pitches, He would start his campaign by retiring the first eight Chanticleers he would face, but back-to-back double in the third would plate one for Coastal in their third.
Georgia Southern's first hit also came in the third when
Josh Tate singled back up the middle with two away. The Eagles' centerfielder also went three-for-four on the evening, including a solo home run in the eighth to prevent the shutout from the Eagles' offense.Â
Coastal Carolina would also homer, this time in the top of the fourth inning, to take a 2-0 lead before doubling their run total their next chance at the plate. After two singles to start the fifth, they would eventually both score to make it 4-0. The Chanticleers would extend their lead all the way to five in the seventh from a Bodine RBI-single before Tate's home run in the eighth.
