GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Georgia Southern track and field team wrapped up its regular season indoor campaign at the Celebration Pointe Classic on Friday inside the Alachua County Sports Complex. 

"Overall, we had an exciting competition today. We had a number of ladies step up with a few new school records from two true freshman! I believe this Meet gave us some insight on a few things that we need to work on as we move towards the conference championships." said head coach David Neville. 

Freshman Emily Wheldon set a new school record in the 5000m with a time of 17:33.68 The freshman's personal best time broke a record set back in 2020 by Merabu Nagawndala. 

Freshman Leonaya Knox set a new program record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.48 breaking Jasmine Billing's record set back in 2012 (8.49) and finished in second place in the event. 

Zya Gibbs set a new personal best in the 800m with a time of 2:16.10. Jayla Lawrence set a new 200m personal best with a time of 24.49. Mya Turner set a new personal best in the 60m with a time of 7.86. Tristen Crosby ran a personal best time of 5:19.05 in the 1 mile run. Yasmine Williams ran two personal best in the 200m (25.82) and the 400m (59.24) and Julia Wilson ran a personal best in the 5000m with a time of 19:13.88. 

The 4x400 relay team of Alanna Smith, NaJ Watson, Keniya Walker, and Zya Gibbs took third place in the event with a time of 3:48.00. Watson and Lawrence took second and fourth in the 200m, respectively. Shatalya Dorsett took second in the 60m with a time of 7.44. Kennedy Hood claimed first place in the long jump followed by third place finisher Imani Moore. Jailah Lee and Alexandria Kennedy finished third and fourth in the triple jump.
