PREVIEW: Eagles Prepare to Host GATA Challenge

Eagles play two Friday and Saturday
STATESBORO – Georgia Southern softball is set to host its second consecutive tournament, the GATA Challenge, this weekend beginning on Friday at Beautiful Eagle Field. The Eagles will host Campbell, Fairfield, and Oakland for a 10-game tournament.

LAST TIME OUT
The Eagles went 2-2 over the weekend hosting the Bash in the Boro at Beautiful Eagle Field. On Friday the Eagles opened the tournament with a 2-1 win over Lipscomb before run-ruling the Bisons on Saturday, 13-0, in five innings. In the contest, the Eagles tallied 14 hits the most since the 2023 season when the Eagles recorded 15 hits against Georgia State on April 15. Georgia Southern dropped both of its matchups to Harvard and fell in extra innings in game two.
DEL'S WEEKEND AT THE PLATE
Sophomore shortstop Delanie Thames went 5-for-13 (.387) this weekend at the plate including the Eagles first home run of the season, a two-run shot to right field against Lipscomb. Thames tallied five runs batted in over the four games and recorded a double and three runs scored.
BAILEY'S BALL
Junior right hander Bailey Holland tossed her second complete game of the season against Lipscomb in Friday's 2-1 win over Lipscomb. Holland tossed seven complete innings allowing just one unearned run on three hits. The junior tallied five strikeouts in the contest and walked just one batter.
