GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 24-ranked Florida men's tennis team earned a 6-1 win over visiting Georgia Southern on Monday at the Perry Indoor Facility in Gainesville.
The Gators notched the season-opening Spring win to move to 1-0, while Georgia Southern falls to 2-2, with both losses so far coming against nationally-ranked opponents. The Eagles return to action on Saturday, playing a non-conference tilt against South Alabama on the Ole Miss campus in Oxford, Miss.
Florida notched wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to claim the doubles point in the match. Georgia Southern's No. 2 doubles duo of Laurent Julia Calac and Aaron James Williams picked up a 6-3 win over JanMagnus Johnson and Adhithya Ganesan.
The Gators then clinched the match with straight-set singles wins at No. 3-6 singles and at No. 1 singles. The Eagles' point in the match came at No. 2 singles as Aaron James Williams downed Johnson, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0.
"Our guys are bought in to who we are, and what we bring as a program," Georgia Southern head men's tennis coach Andrew Goodwin said. "We are going to continue getting tougher and stronger as this season progresses. Our best is ahead of us."
