Eagles Drop Opener to Ragin' Cajuns

STATESBORO – Louisiana used a trio of multi-run innings to take down the Georgia Southern Eagles baseball team by a final score of 19-3 on Friday night at J.I. Clements Stadium.

The Cajuns (36-15, 19-6 SBC) led off with a Kyle DeBarge homer to start the game with a 1-0 lead, but the Eagles (27-22, 15-10 SBC) responded in the bottom of the second inning with a Sean Smith sac fly to tie the game up at 1-1.

Louisiana responded with a sac fly of their own in the top of the third, but Southern yet again responded with a T.J. McKenzie RBI-double in the bottom of the fourth to score Sean White and tie the game again at 2-2.

Louisiana broke the game open with a 7-run inning in the top of the fifth inning, taking a 9-2 lead after the fifth frame of play. Georgia Southern would dent the lead with one run in the bottom of the sixth, but two more runs in the top of the seventh and three home runs in the eighth, including a grand slam by Ben Robichaux, would seal the Eagles fate at 19-3.

Ben Johnson fell to 4-3 after 4.2 innings of work, surrendering eight runs, only two earned, on five hits. LP Langevin moved to 5-1 after 5.1 innings of long relief, where he gave up two runs of five hits with eight strikeouts.
