Softball Falls to ULM 7-3 in Series Opener

Game two is set for 3 p.m. tomorrow
MONROE, La. – The Georgia Southern softball team (20-14, 4-6 SBC) fell, 7-3, to ULM on Friday night at ULM Softball Complex. The Warhawks used a sixth inning surge scoring six runs on seven hits as the Eagle offense recorded just four hits.
Georgia Southern stuck first in the opening frame when Delanie Thames drew a bases loaded walk to put the Eagles out in front 1-0. Emma Davis drew a walk to lead off the game before Katie Perkins reached on a sacrifice bunt and Jess Mazur was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
ULM tied things up in the bottom half of the first inning on RBI sac-bunt to make it 1-1.
The Eagles regained the lead in the third inning scoring two runs on two hits making it 3-1. Faith Barth led off the inning with an extra base hit and Janai Conklin was hit by a pitch before both advanced a base on a wild pitch to move into scoring position. A passed ball scored Barth before Delanie Thames recorded an RBI-single to plate Brooke Kell who pinch ran for Conklin.
The Warhawks took the lead in the fourth scoring six runs on seven hits in the frame for the final score, 7-3.
Anslie Pettit moves to 9-6 on the season after tossing 3.2 innings allowing seven runs on ten hits and adding five strikeouts.
Davis, Barth, Thames, and Sam Vinson recorded a hit a piece to total the four Eagle hits. Thames went 1-for-1 with two runs batted in for her second multi-RBI game of the season.
